THE LAZAR STUDIO

Betania, Tbilisi, Georgia
2019

The building is conceived as a long horizontal structure placed within the open landscape of Navazi. Its linear form follows the natural terrain, allowing the architecture to remain calm and unobtrusive within the surrounding environment.

The composition is organized as a continuous single-level volume where working and living spaces are arranged along a clear longitudinal axis. This linear organization creates a sequence of rooms that open toward the landscape.

Large panoramic openings define the façade, allowing natural light to penetrate deep into the interior. For an artist’s workspace, light becomes the primary architectural element, shaping the atmosphere of the studio throughout the day.

The roof follows a gentle slope and extends across the entire length of the building, reinforcing the horizontal character of the composition. An external stair leads to the roof terrace, transforming the upper surface into an additional spatial layer.

The project explores architecture as a quiet linear structure — a workshop where landscape, light, and spatial continuity create a calm environment for artistic work and everyday living.

BUILDING PROCESS

VILLAGE NAVAZI

Navazi is a small rural settlement located in the Mtskheta Municipality of eastern Georgia, approximately 35 kilometers from Tbilisi. The area is defined by forested hills and quiet natural surroundings that form a calm landscape beyond the dense urban environment of the capital.

The spatial character of Navazi emerges from the relationship between scattered houses and the surrounding forest landscape. Buildings are placed within clearings and open areas, allowing the natural terrain and vegetation to remain dominant while architecture frames views toward the surrounding hills.
