TONE COURTYARD HOUSE

Napetvrebi, Tbilisi, Georgia
2023

The house is conceived as a compact architectural volume embedded within the sloping landscape of Napetvrebi. Its geometry is defined by a clear rectangular form that appears as a solid object placed within the natural terrain, establishing a calm yet powerful architectural presence.

The exterior is articulated through textured masonry blocks that give the building a sense of weight and permanence. Large recessed openings cut into the monolithic volume allow light to enter while framing controlled views toward the surrounding hills and vegetation.

At the center of the composition lies a protected inner courtyard. This space becomes the quiet core of the house, allowing natural light and greenery to penetrate the interior while maintaining privacy from the outside landscape.

Inside, the architecture continues through a restrained palette of materials. Rough concrete block walls contrast with warm wooden surfaces, creating a balance between raw structural expression and domestic comfort.

The project explores architecture as a simple yet strong spatial system — a house defined by mass, light, and enclosure, where interior life unfolds around a calm protected courtyard.

VILLAGE NAPETVREBI

Napetvrebi is a hillside settlement located on the slopes of the Trialeti ridge above the valley of the Vere River, approximately 800–1100 meters above sea level. Positioned above Tbilisi, the area is defined by forested hills, open views, and a cooler mountain climate compared to the city below.

The spatial character of the settlement emerges from the relationship between architecture and the surrounding landscape. Houses are positioned along the natural terrain, allowing the mountain relief and vegetation to remain dominant while opening views toward the valley and the distant horizon.
