SMOLDER
Bed Structure
Edition of 10 + 2 Artist Proofs
AD1369105 - 2022
SMOLDER examines combustion without flame. The headboard, cut into a rising fire contour, fixes movement in solid charred oak. What appears volatile is rendered immobile. The gesture of ignition becomes structural mass - a frozen crest of heat translated into architecture.
The bed operates as a zone of contained intensity. Its surface is horizontal, stable, grounded; behind it, the vertical silhouette suggests latent energy held in restraint. SMOLDER does not depict passion - it stabilizes it. The fire does not burn; it endures. The object registers the threshold between ignition and control.
Charred oak carries both memory and transformation - wood altered by fire yet structurally intact. SMOLDER proposes the bed not as a place of rest, but as a platform of suspended force: a structure where heat remains internal, never fully released.
